Wow! It’s been a long time since we’ve had a Pregame list. So to make up for it here’s one of the best ones ever. It’s got hip-hop, indie, dubstep, house, and lots of love.


Hip-Hop

Kendrick has a really smooth vocal delivery that works well with the multilayered relaxed instrumental.

A really high-energy dance remix of Passion Pit’s most memorable track. Get this one.

Vocal House

We’ve often covered the phenomenal mash-up artist 3LAU and the equally talented group Sex Ray Vision, and their remix of “Work Hard, Play Hard” won the Tiesto remix competition by a long shot. It’s a beautiful progressive vocal house track, and its absolutely made to get you hyped up.

Dubstep

Since this is just the pre-game list, these are not the usual heavy sort of dubstep songs. No crazy womps or unintelligible samples. Just some fluid basslines and hypnotic vocals. I highly recommend both of these songs, especially if you don’t like what dubstep usually sounds like.

Pregame #11

Pardon me for the delay in this week’s Pregame, but it’s definitely worth the wait. The highlight is the track “Summer In The City” by one of our favorite hip-hop artists Mikill Pane. His lyrics are both funny and uplifting, and the idyllic whistling through the chorus just makes it all sound like the soundtrack to a walk in the park.

K’naan shows off his versatility in this rap/rock hybrid song; it’s got plenty of drums, guitars, but also heartfelt lyrics and a very catchy chorus.

Once upon a time a friend said to me that electronic music just sounds like computers dying. Apparently this band would like to disagree, and I think they’ve really managed to make computers sound like magic. Led by a dreamy vocals and backed by plenty of synths, “The End Of Time” is a solid example of moving and harmonious electronic music.

This is a rather unconventional pre-game list. Quirky songs and breaks from normality – but that’s a good thing, I believe. Well anyways, with the exception of Drake’s new song “Headlines”, this should make for a pretty solid set-up for spontaneous dancing, sing-alongs, and confused, weird looks from anyone who classifies as a “bro”.

Better be ready for the weekend cause we only have a few of them left before the summer’s over. With that in mind, let us help you get ready with this varied mix of pregame tracks.
I was hoping to get some of Watch the Throne on here, but apparently it is pretty much the only major hip-hop album in god-knows-how-long to not be leaked early. So we’ll just have to wait till August 8th… No worries though, Wiley has dropped another album entirely recorded, produced, and mastered by himself; Watsky has just released a new mixtape, and along with a couple of remixes and mash-ups there’s loads of good stuff to get us hyped up for partying.

Since dubstep got popular about two years ago, I’ve felt that rap and dubstep inevitably had to come together to make one super-genre. This is a glimpse of what could happen.

You might be thinking – “Mumford & Sons and pregaming couldn’t possibly go well together”. I would usually agree, but this Sound Remedy remix does a fantastic job of slowly building up the song into an energetic stomper. Wait for (or skip to) the 1:30 minute mark to see what I mean.

Just in time for the weekend, grab these songs to get you ready. It’s got all the right tunes for sipping on some beers on these warm summer nights and loosening up before a wild party.
These songs are mostly hip-hop songs with a midtempo solid beat, but the last one is a real chill dubstep tune that you’d like if you’re a fan of lowkey dubstep without any heavy womps or drops.
