Looking for a new indie band to love? Solid. We all should be, ‘cuz the old ones keep getting sooo mainstream. CSS is a pretty eclectic band, as you can see in their picture, mixing a couple of sexy girls with equally sexy voices and that lucky dude who gets to join them. Well ya anyways if you want to actually know something about them: they’re a Brazilian indie rock band with plenty of spunk and jamming electro-grunge to match their lovely vocals. Although I can’t help but think the word “sexy” when I listen to their music or check out their pictures, CSS is an abbreviation for Cansei de Ser Sexy, which means “tired of being sexy” in Portuguese. I guess it gets lame after a while.

Their new single off their most recent album La Liberación, “Red Alert”, has already been featured on loads of blogs, but in case you missed it then you must check it out. It’s fit for cruising along to, casually shaking your bum as you skip-walk in the grass.

Feel So Close – Calvin Harris

As promised, we’ve got the release of Feel So Close by Calvin Harris, as well as a bunch of sick remixes. We’ve been hearing the Nero remix since it leaked months ago, but now we’ve also got the Benny Benassi and Dillon Francis remixes, with each adding their own trademark sound.

Calvin Harris has taken a break from pop stardom to focus on his production, and the example he set with Bounce has just been destroyed by this song. It’s got everything you’d expect from him: the feel-good lyrics, the melody that’s bound to come up in mash-ups everywhere, and a beat that ties it all together to make for a song that’ll fit into any party atmosphere.

The best of the remixes in my opinion, the Dillon Francis moombahton sound just fits the melody of this track so well. It’s aesthetically similar to Francis’ remix of Hits Me Like A Rock by CSS.

Classic Benassi: big bass, big melody, big sound – just like everything else Benassi does, this is the remix you’ll need for when you’re shwasted and just wanna dance like you’re in your own universe.

Pregame #11

Pardon me for the delay in this week’s Pregame, but it’s definitely worth the wait. The highlight is the track “Summer In The City” by one of our favorite hip-hop artists Mikill Pane. His lyrics are both funny and uplifting, and the idyllic whistling through the chorus just makes it all sound like the soundtrack to a walk in the park.

Once upon a time a friend said to me that electronic music just sounds like computers dying. Apparently this band would like to disagree, and I think they’ve really managed to make computers sound like magic. Led by a dreamy vocals and backed by plenty of synths, “The End Of Time” is a solid example of moving and harmonious electronic music.

ETC!ETC! is an L.A.-based producer who’s just getting started on the booming genre of moombahton, having switched his focus from electro-house and grime. The move is obviously working for him judging by the acclaim that his two latest tracks have received. He’s adding some originality and diversity to the sound of moombahton, which is really beginning to grow from a novelty into a monstrous dancefloor trend.

Dillon Francis is such a nice guy…

… and he makes great music too. After a fake version of his remix of the CSS song Hits Me Like A Rock started to go around the interwebs, he reacted by basically saying “Fuck that fake shit. Here’s the real remix, for free.”

 

This is one of the best moombahton songs I’ve ever heard; it’s got a mellow vibe and a happy electro-pop sound. It would go very well with a bright summer day.

For all you electronic hipsters, you probably already know all about Moombahton and were into it, like, way before the lamestream media caught on.

For everyone else, check out this new sound invented by Dave Nada. The story is: he was DJing his cousin’s homecoming party in D.C., and he realized that he didn’t really have any music that wasn’t techno or dutch house, and that the crowd at the party was more into reggaeton and slower dance music. So he took Afrojack’s track “Moombah”, slowed it down to 108 bpm (beats per minute), and mixed it with the reggaeton song “Dembow”. And thus Moombahton was born.

Besides just slowing it down, the reggaeton-like elements are what makes a moombahton song, like the drums and chopped vocals. It can give off a feeling of a sexy pool party, the kind that Latin girls from Miami would have.
