Vocal Electro/House

Perfect for partying. Nothing makes them bitches scream like a good chorus on top of crazy electro.

Star Guitar – Shinichi Osawa

Haven’t heard this song in many years, but it suddenly popped into my head and now it’s stuck there. Besides being a breathtakingly catchy remix of a Chemical Brothers track featuring the vocals of Au Revoir Simone, “Star Guitar” is a delightful summer tune that just begs for some energy and dirty dancing. Nobody puts Baby in the corner.

Danny Darko

If any of you ever played Skyrim, you might recognise the sampled ballad from certain parts of the game. What you won’t recognise is the huge beat and heavy electro track that Danny Darko has turned the ballad into.

I think it’s a huge tune, and I reckon you will too.

Ehrencrona

When I came across this song it was said to be an Avicii original, but after some exploring I have discovered ‘Ehrencrona.’ With a great sound reminiscent of Avicii, I see a big future for this DJ.

Of Monsters and Men (Remix/Cover/Album Release/Festivals)

I’m very happy to bring you a few updates on my favorite Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men. If you don’t know who they are yet, take a look back at our review of their debut album back in October.

First up, their album My Head is an Animal has finally been released in the U.S. and Canada. Go get it! It’s amazing. U.S. iTunes || Canada iTunes

They’re going to be playing at Lollapalooza and Osheaga festivals this summer, and to top it off they’re gonna be on Jimmy Fallon on May 8th. I’m so happy for them that they’re getting more well-known now, because by the strength of their debut album I was shocked that more blogs/magazine/people hadn’t found out about them.

Well all that’s starting to change, starting with this HypeM-chart-topping progressive house bootleg by Dzeko & Torres. I’m a sucker for house remixes of folk/indie songs, and this one’s super-awesome.

Home – Gabrielle Aplin

I really hope that you don’t feel like you’ve heard too many singer-songwriters coming out of the U.K, because I need to introduce you to Gabrielle Aplin. Like many other young artists in the last few years, she first found an audience on YouTube before using that to jumpstart her music career. After three EPs that shot well up the iTunes charts, she got signed to Parlophone Records in February. She’s now working on a debut album that’s slated to be released in August of this year.

For your convenience, you could just think of her as the female Ed Sheeran. But that would be a cheap shortcut, since her pop/folk hybrid and light, carrying voice are wonderful and inspiring and unique. To get aquainted, first listen to these two songs from her latest EP Home.

Remixes!

For when you’re in party mode, Chris Ramos did some fantastic work converting “Home” into an energetic vocal house song. I really love this remix. For a point of reference, it’s similar to how Kaskade always uses gorgeous female vocals in his music.

Dubstep remix from Eyes. Again, a really good remix, but this isn’t party dubstep. The song gains a nice deep, rhythmic beat that slowly works its way to the light womps+wubs of the chorus.
