Every once in a while, I’ll stumble upon a gem of a song buried deep in the dark corners of my iTunes library. Today, I discovered one such track that’s made for heavy duty partying. It has a slow build-up, so feel free to skip to 0:45. What makes the song so awesome (besides the fat beat) is its ingenious use of samples from The Hangover.

When I came across this song it was said to be an Avicii original, but after some exploring I have discovered ‘Ehrencrona.’ With a great sound reminiscent of Avicii, I see a big future for this DJ.

Big Gigantic – Nocturnal [Album]

This brilliant and complex album from Big Gigantic is a masterful exposition of the possibilities of electronic music. Reaching far beyond the usual dance-oriented EDM, Nocturnal incorporates elements of jazz, dubstep, and all sorts of other genres I can’t name. Building on the success of their first album A Place Behind The Moon, the two Boulder, CO-based musicians rely heavily on the saxophone to create a powerful melody that is both invigorating and awe-inspiring. Then the remaining space is filled with a wide array of syncopated drum rhythms, mesmerizing vocal samples, electro-pop synths, and grungy basslines.

“Beginning of the End” is a majestic track that fully deserves the overused word “epic”. This should be the definition of epic. Almost 7 minutes long so make sure you’ve got the auditory patience for it.
