I usually fall madly in love with every artist in Neon Gold Record‘s repertoire. Foxes stands out in their amazing lineup that includes the likes of Marina & the Diamonds, Mr Little Jeans, and St Lucia.
She’s got the provocative lyrics and sound of a rising pop star, that’s for sure. But “Youth” shows the kind of enticing grace that few modern pop stars seem to care much about. The song sucks you in to a daydream and for a few minutes the colors you see pop just a little brighter.
Meanwhile, the Montreal-based duo Adventure Club decided to awesomize the song with their dubstep rendition. It’s the kind of remix that comes to define a song even more than the original. Foxes’ voice is still front-and-center, but now its accompanied by a supporting cast of whooshes, womps, heavy kick drums and all sorts of glitched-out electropera.

This came out back in December, but if you haven’t heard of it yet then I hope this catches your attention. Thanks to the Scion (car company) sponsorship, this five-track EP from Benga and Skream comes to you completely free.
These are monstrous pieces of dubstep, clearly showing that they’re still developing the ideas they started with dubstep almost ten years ago, rather than twisting it off into the modern-day equivalent of death metal. While I don’t always begrudge the introduction of heavy-metal-like elements into brostep, I still have a love for these kinds of tracks that I don’t feel when I listen to artists like Borgore or Excision.
Don’t mistake me though. I’m not saying that this EP is soft, just that it has a more deep focus on melody and details that only come out on repeated listens. And the rhythm ties it all together to form a deep sound that holds your attention just long enough before morphing into a new sound.
