Thinking About You (Frank Ocean Cover) – Atlas
All I have to say is that I think I love this cover more than the original. It’s very close at least.

Viceroy is a remix artist from San Francisco. His vibes are summery, and generally very chill. He’s also one of the few remix artists that completely changes the song they’re remixing instead of just slightly adjusting it.

Orgasmic. Delicate. Mesmerizing. All those adjectives and more that I can’t think of right now. Clams Casino has almost immediately become one of my favorite remixers, for this track by Joyce, and for the remix of “Never Let Me Go.”
I haven’t ever heard of Joyce before, and even now I can’t find much info, but her voice has captured my imagination. I’m just listening to this song on repeat right now, and you should be too.

I really hope that you don’t feel like you’ve heard too many singer-songwriters coming out of the U.K, because I need to introduce you to Gabrielle Aplin. Like many other young artists in the last few years, she first found an audience on YouTube before using that to jumpstart her music career. After three EPs that shot well up the iTunes charts, she got signed to Parlophone Records in February. She’s now working on a debut album that’s slated to be released in August of this year.
For your convenience, you could just think of her as the female Ed Sheeran. But that would be a cheap shortcut, since her pop/folk hybrid and light, carrying voice are wonderful and inspiring and unique. To get aquainted, first listen to these two songs from her latest EP Home.

Remixes!
For when you’re in party mode, Chris Ramos did some fantastic work converting “Home” into an energetic vocal house song. I really love this remix. For a point of reference, it’s similar to how Kaskade always uses gorgeous female vocals in his music.

Dubstep remix from Eyes. Again, a really good remix, but this isn’t party dubstep. The song gains a nice deep, rhythmic beat that slowly works its way to the light womps+wubs of the chorus.

In over a year, the world has hardly heard a word from Beach House, the dreampop duo that gave us Teen Dream (undoubtedly the best album of 2010). So it made me delightfully happy to see their announcement of a new song pop up in my Facebook feed. Here it is: the first track “Myth” from their upcoming album Bloom.
You can download it by going to their website and then signing up for their mailing list.

The clouds are moving swiftly, their whiteness reflecting purely against the black sky where satellites camouflage themselves as stars. The clouds are so close to the earth, like low-hanging fruit ready to be plucked. An occasional clap of thunder hits the distance. It’s windy. I enjoy how the cigarette smoke shakes in little spasms around my face, and how the wind exposes every microscopic gap in the fibers of my sweater.
Shielding me are the rolling waves of a slow drum, blanketed by a ghost whispering a few incomprehensible words. It’s an invigorating euphoria like no other, to feel completely at home in the world.

Discordant but beautifully harmonious were the words which came to my mind as I was listening to Nicolas Jaar at San Francisco. Hailing from Brown University where he continues his studies, this 21-year-old Chilean-American has a distinct, comforting and definitely experimental sound which already gathered him a considerable amount of followers and we think you might want to join them too…

More recently, Nicolas Jaar has also been collaborating with Dave Harrington on the side project Darkside. A more grungy sound than Jaar’s own work, but there’s no mistaking his perfect sense of timing a song to build some anticipation.
