I have no musical talent. It's a shame, because I'm kinda addicted to music, all genres, shapes, and cup sizes.

The Mother We Share – Chvrches

I’m not sure how to descrive Chvrches. Replacing the ‘u’ with the ‘v’ in their name certainly smacks of indie band smugness, but their music speaks for itself. This track is carried start-to-end by Lauren Mayberry’s delightfully unique vocals – she sings with the bubbly-sweet air of a Disney star, but the lyrics are magnificent, inspiring and poetic.

Let me offer a pithy quote to sum it up:

Churches are a trio from Glasgow who are super new, like 2012 new, onto the scene and are already making waves and other cliches. Check em.

All The Eastern Girls (RAC Remix) – Chapel Club

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of exploring RAC’s huge catalog of indietronica remixes, you’ll know that they are the mark of excellence for an indie band and invariably make any song better. You might also have discovered this little gem of a remix, released two years ago. “All The Eastern Girls” is immediately pretentious, pronouncing “this is a love song” over and over again. But then you can drift back and get all nostalgic as they enchant you with dreams of eastern girls with golden skin. It’s curiously addictive, and for me it has permanently melted into the neural fabric of my brain.

Lights (Shook Remix) – Ellie Goulding

Before you think “oh jeez I’ve already got a million remixes of Lights” – wait, hear me out. I thought the same thing, but happened to come across this one in a playlist and was struck by the totally different feel of the song. Unlike most remixes of Ellie Goulding’s music, this one’s not a straight dancefloor cookie-cutter remix. Shook procures the atmosphere of a lounge band, with Goulding’s vocals the highlight of a glittery assortment of instruments. Try it out and see if it doesn’t become your favorite Ellie remix.

Caramellas (Joakim Remix) – Aeroplane

An infectiously bouncy remix by Joakim. Although it’s the simplest song – just a few vocal samples and a slowly progressing instrumental beat – it somehow finds a magical groove that makes me want to go dance.

P.S. Sorry for the hiatus. Got busy for a while, but I’m here again and I’ve got tons of music that I’ve been waiting to share. Welcome back.

The Murder Trilogy

After hearing their first new single in years “Runaways”, I got a nostalgic feeling and went back and listened to The Killers’ whole discography. The misshapen tragedy that was Day & Age (not to mention Brandon Flower’s solo effort Flamingo) had caused me to fall out of love with a once-great band, but listening to Hot Fuss, Sam’s Town, and Sawdust reignited that passion and rock-and-roll drive once again.

To tickle your tastebuds, here’s a little taste of what The Killers can be when they’re on top of their game: The Murder Trilogy.

And I never liked your hair // Or those people that you lie with // But I’m not satisfied // Until I hold you tight

Fun Murderous Fact: When on tour, Flowers occasionally replaces that last line with “She couldn’t scream while I held her throat” or “She kicked and screamed while I held her throat.”

Just What I Am – Kid Cudi feat. King Chip

Cudderisback. For real this time. No more false starts, no more MotM II or WZRD. It’s been a long and painful journey for Kid Cudi and his fans alike, but I believe this first track from upcoming album Indicud signals the start of Kid Cudi v2.0. A masterful and creative opening verse from King Chip is a delightful kickstart to this track. The chorus, while certainly as un-creative as possible (“I need to smoke // I wanna get high y’all”), is chilled out and complements the verses well. The real highlight is Cudi’s verse, which is lyrically clever and, most importantly, gives us a real insight into his new mindset. It sounds like he’s got a postive outlook again – no more self-pity, no more defeatist attitude.

Indicud should be released later this year. Judging by this release, it’s gonna be a great fucking album.

Perth (Hannes Fischer Remix) – Bon Iver

Yeah, yeah, I know I posted a remix of Perth by Teen Daze just a week ago. But I wish I had waited, because this Hannes Fischer remix of “Perth” just blows it out of the water. I didn’t even think that was possible, but evidently Bon Iver’s remix competition is attracting a lot of serious talent and effort.

Here you go: seven minutes of heaven.
