It would be easy to dismiss this song as just another indie track, by just another indie band. At first listen, that’s certainly what I thought. But on deeper introspection, I found that “Air” gave me a strangely disconcerting feeling of nostalgia. Like a tip-of-the-tongue sensation, I felt an intimate familiarity with the song, but I couldn’t place why or where the feeling came from.

Maybe I’m just a sucker for male/female vocals echoing each other, but there is something special about this band. I suggest you give them a few listens and see if you get the same reaction.

Big Gigantic – Nocturnal [Album]

Big Gigantic – Nocturnal [Album]

This brilliant and complex album from Big Gigantic is a masterful exposition of the possibilities of electronic music. Reaching far beyond the usual dance-oriented EDM, Nocturnal incorporates elements of jazz, dubstep, and all sorts of other genres I can’t name. Building on the success of their first album A Place Behind The Moon, the two Boulder, CO-based musicians rely heavily on the saxophone to create a powerful melody that is both invigorating and awe-inspiring. Then the remaining space is filled with a wide array of syncopated drum rhythms, mesmerizing vocal samples, electro-pop synths, and grungy basslines.

“Beginning of the End” is a majestic track that fully deserves the overused word “epic”. This should be the definition of epic. Almost 7 minutes long so make sure you’ve got the auditory patience for it.

I’ve been playing this on repeat for nearly three hours non-stop. I can’t find much info about these guys other than their SoundCloud page, but damn this is an amazing and addictive song. I don’t even want to attempt to describe it. Just listen.

Discordant but beautifully harmonious were the words which came to my mind as I was listening to Nicolas Jaar at San Francisco. Hailing from Brown University where he continues his studies, this 21-year-old Chilean-American has a distinct, comforting and definitely experimental sound which already gathered him a considerable amount of followers and we think you might want to join them too…

More recently, Nicolas Jaar has also been collaborating with Dave Harrington on the side project Darkside. A more grungy sound than Jaar’s own work, but there’s no mistaking his perfect sense of timing a song to build some anticipation.

We’ve got two beautiful remixes of M83′s fabulous single “Midnight City” for you today. The more well-known of the two is Eric Prydz’s remix, which has been shooting up the HypeM charts. As we’ve come to expect from Prydz, it is both uplifting and paced for some energetic dancing.
