The Ballroom Scene – Saturday Night Gym Club

You may remember the Gym Club lads from their entrancing single “I Know” featuring Ellie Walker, or their musical guide on “How To Build A Life Raft”. The last time I wrote a post about these guys (see it here), they had just played their second-ever gig at BBC Radio 1′s Big Weekend and were still basking in the success of their first single release. I said that I expected big things of this band, and I’m glad to know that they haven’t let me down.

They’ve just sent me their newest single “The Ballroom Scene” fresh from the studio; it’s a mesmerizing track. Their unique sound is even more clearly felt, with the violin, drum samples, and synths slowly joining together to create a dancefloor-friendly sound that is reinforced by the catchy hook. Saturday Night Gym Club aims to mesh storytelling into their indietronica melodies, and this effort perfectly encapsulates that vision by using the instrumentals to set the scene for the tale of a 1940′s fighter pilot.

The release date is set for September so check back then for download info, but for now you can listen to it here, or check out their Bandcamp page.

When are you guys coming to play for us in NYC. You would blow up over here. It reminds me of animal collective, only with a more pop/shoegaze vibe.
