Sex Ray Vision

Sex Ray Vision is a pretty new electro/pop group coming from Stanford University. They’ve just released two great new songs that are designed to get you dancing.

Here’s a remix of Maroon 5′s Moves Like Jagger. To me, Maroon 5 stopped being relevant years ago, but this remix infuses some great electro-pop energy to the song.

Culture of Fear – Thievery Corporation (chill-out)

Thievery Corporation have just released their 6th studio album titled Culture of Fear, and it falls into place as another super-chilled-out addition to their discography. With the same idea intact of using culturally-influenced beats and real instruments speckled with some electronic grooves and production, Thievery Corporation is still as unique and refreshing as they were when they started out in 1995. For those of you who haven’t heard of Thievery Corporation before, I’ve also added some of their best songs of all time. First off, though, here are the highlights off their new album.

The title track, Culture of Fear, perfectly encapsulates the collective’s aim to mix in their political message with the chill beats. While it is the most upbeat track on the album, the hip-hop verses are thoughtful and profound and worth some focus.

Summer House

It is the perfect time of the year to listen to all the infectious Mediterannean-inspired dance tracks. With the Balearic sound and instruments, summer house is the sexiest sound to dance to all night long. I’ve just discovered an artist named Andreea Banica, who puts out a deft mix of house beats with light percussion, guitars, and sweet vocals.

Womp womp

I’ve been ignoring dubstep lately, and for that I apologize to all you womp-lovers. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed with these songs.

Datsik has produced another crazy and intense dubstep thumper that is as high-powered as the lyrics say it is. Boom boom thump thump womp womp. Remember that this will sound pretty shit on your laptop speakers. Do it some justice and hook it up to one of these.

The Lord of Dubstep, or God of Bass, or whatever they’re calling him these days. The point is: Skrillex is at it again. He teamed up with 12th Planet to create this heavy ode to bass with his usual knack for great samples and ability to suddenly turn down the intensity, before blowing it away again.

I posted The Weeknd’s High For This on last week’s Lazy Days, and I knew that it was perfect for a dubstep remix. So I went out and searched through a bunch of crap ones. And then I found this one. It keeps the strung-out tension of the original, before releasing the womps in little bits here and there. I like that approach because it doesn’t crowd out the song – it just adds to it. Oh yeah, and you might wanna be high for this.
